FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AmeriCorpsLocal organizations work together to encourage local service days as part of national movement.January 12, 2004 -- One goal of AmeriCorps members during their year of service is to support community programs through encouraging and participating in community service days. This year, the AmeriCorps members are supporting the Lewistown Skaters Association through fundraising and service project assistance. Skateboarders, like participants in any other sport, such as baseball or volleyball, need a safe location where they can practice and refine thier sport. The skate park currently is in need of resurfacing and repairs that will cost approximately $30??? thousand dollars, and the association has a goal of 80???, total, which would also provide some additional improvements and allow the facility to be used by bikers, as well. The association hopes that a show of support through local fundraising and service projects will give the association a better chance of receiving grants to help raise a portion of these funds. The Lewistown Skaters Association and AmeriCorps members will be hosting a skate-a-thon, pizza baking contest and eatery, and music fest on Feburary 20th. This event will include live performances by several bands, including ______________ The event is called __________________ The proceeds of this fundraiser will go to help resurface the skate park on 7th and __? for the local skate boarders. The Lewistown Skaters Association and AmeriCorps members will also be hosting a skate park cleanup day on ______________. Their goals for this day include repairing the chain-link fence around the skating area and other cleanup/maintenance for the park.
